Friendly, delicious and uniquely Chinese are just a few ways our faithful customers have decribed our dishes. A long-standing Hawaii insitituition, the Little Village concept was conceived way back in 1974 when owners Kenneth and Jennifer Chan first stepped foot on American soil. Arriving in Honolulu from China with only a suitcase and $100 to their name, the young married couple worked in the restaurant business and saved for nearly ten years in order to open a restaurant of their own. Their work paid off in 1984 when they opened their 30 seat “hole in the wall” in the University district. The restaurant served fresh dim sum daily and blended the major cooking styles of China (Northern, Hong Kong and Szechuan) into a new balanced taste. Chef Kenneth Chan developed a reputation for savory and distinctive sauces almost immediately, and the restaurant filled to capacity on a daily basis. In 1988 the restaurant moved across the street to a location five times the size of the original business and continued to earn praise and multiple awards for their stellar cuisine.

In 1998, the Chan’s started to feel the itch for change and expansion once again and introduced a 50 course buffet (Chan’s Chinese Buffet; 3131 N. Nimitz Hwy; 808.833.3366) at a new restaurant located by the Honolulu Airport. Blending their unique cooking style with local cuisine (which includes chicken long rice and kalua pig) the Chan’s reached a whole new audience with top-notch, fresh and innovative dishes. With business booming, Mrs. Chan felt an ache to return to her roots with a smaller, more intimate dining experience. Deciding to follow the road less traveled, the Chan’s took a huge risk and decided to open a fine dining restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. During this time, the neighborhood was less than desirable, but the Chan’s had faith that their customers would embrace their new venture. Not as small as their original location, but with just as much heart, Little Village opened its doors in April 2001 to a curious and hungry crowd. An instant hit for Downtown business people and Chinatown visitors, this latest effort has earned the Chan’s exceptional reviews in almost every major local publication and the coveted Honolulu Advertiser Ilima Award in 2002.

At Little Village we are dedicated to providing our guests with a delicious and memorable experience every time they walk through our doors. Even after 20 long years our goal to serve unique Chinese cuisine in a family-friendly affordable atmosphere has remained strong and our knowledgeable staff looks foward to your next visit. Bon appetite!
